Trataka  (Concentrated gaze)


Trataka is an action which is done to make eyes clean and empower them. In this verb, the eyes are concentrated on a particular object. This object may be a flame or a burning candle or a point
It is carried out without sight until the eyes get tired or the water starts flowing in them.

Let's follows the steps to do Trataka Meditation-

Preparation
  • Place a burning candle or lamps at a distance of 2-3 feet.
  • Its flame should be on the length of the eye.
  • Flame must be stable
  • You can also practice this on a point or stationary object.

 Technique

  • Sit in a dark room in any focusing position and close your eyes.
  • Open your eyes and gaze with both your eyes full open and see Jwala.
  • Continue to gaze without looking in the eye till the eyes get tired or the water flows in them.
  • Now close your eyes and relax.

Remember the following points:

  • When the eyes get tired or water starts flowing from them, stop Trataka kriya.
  • In yoga practice, keep the body stable.
  • Just gaze at the flame theme.
  • Do not blink eyes or twist the eyes around
  • Jwala, the subject matter being meditated should not be shaking.
